MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – Two Central Michigan gymnasts have qualified for the NCAA Championships at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17.
CMU's Hannah DeMers and Morgan Tong will be in the field along with the best college gymnasts in the nation. DeMers, a sophomore from Canton, will compete on the uneven bars; Tong, a junior from Markham, Ont., Can., will compete on the balance beam.
"We're excited for this opportunity to represent Central Michigan University and our gymnastics program," coach Christine MacDonald said. "Their individual success is a great representation of the collaborative team effort to strive for excellence. We are very excited to return to nationals and showcase our talents."
Both DeMers and Tong posted scores of 9.925 in their respective events last weekend at the NCAA Regional hosted by Georgia. The Chippewas qualified for the regional as a team and finished fourth in their semifinal quad.
The scores posted by DeMers and Tong were the best in their respective events at the regional for gymnasts on teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Championships.
They are 12th and 13th individual Chippewas to qualify for the NCAA Championships and the first since Denelle Pedrick in 2018.
