MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Nick Dardas had a pair of run-scoring doubles on Tuesday as Central Michigan topped Northwood, 5-1, in a nonconference baseball game at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas (31-13) return to Mid-American Conference play with a four-game weekend series at Western Michigan. The Chippewas, who are 22-6 and in first place in the league, and Broncos are set to open the series at Western's Robert J. Bobb Stadium on Friday, May 14 (3 p.m.).
J.T. Rogoszewski (2-2) started for CMU on Tuesday and earned the win. Seven Chippewas took a turn on the mound. Combined, they allowed seven hits and struck out 11.
The Chippewas scored three runs in the first inning. Justin Simpson brought home the first run with an RBI double. Zach Lechnir plated in the second with a sacrifice fly, and then Zach Gilles stole home for the Chippewas' third run.
Dardas, a redshirt freshman catcher, had RBI doubles in the second inning and in the fourth.
Garrett Navarra and Danny Wuestenfeld also had two hits for CMU.
