Senior Celebration, And A Big Series For Baseball
5/20/2021 4:21:00 PM | Baseball
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – It will be the final appearance of the season at home for the Central Michigan baseball team, and among the peripheral celebrations for a number of players likely playing for the final time on Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium, there is this: The games mean everything.
The Chippewas are set to entertain Eastern Michigan in a four-game Mid-American Conference series beginning on Friday (3 p.m.).
Saturday's 1 p.m. doubleheader will be preceded by an onfield cap-and-gown ceremony honoring the program's 12 graduates, some of whom earned their degree in 2020; others in 2021. The seniors will then be introduced and honored after Sunday's 1 p.m. series finale.
The Chippewas are 32-16 and 23-9 in the MAC; they share first place with Ball State, which is scheduled to play a four-game set at Ohio this weekend.
CMU closes the regular season with a series next weekend at Toledo. Ball State closes at home with a series against Miami (Ohio). Eastern Michigan is 20-23, 14-18.
The Chippewas dropped three of four games last weekend at Western Michigan. It was the first time this season they dropped a MAC series. CMU has won five of its eight league series and split two.
