Field Hockey Drops MAC Opener

MUNICE, Ind. – The Central Michigan field hockey team dropped its Mid-American Conference opener to Ball State, 2-1, on Friday at the Cardinals' Briner Sports Complex.
The Chippewas are 1-5, 0-1 MAC. Ball State is 3-5, 1-0.
Lauren Buffington scored the Chippewas' goal, assisted by Hannah Havrilla, late in the fourth quarter. Ball State scored both of its goals in the third.
The Chippewas were held without a shot through three quarters, but then posted five shots, including four on goal, in the fourth.
Similarly, CMU had taken no penalty corners through the first three quarters, and then had three in final 15 minutes.
CMU goalkeeper Katie Maxim recorded four saves in 57 minutes.
The Chippewas are scheduled to go to Michigan State on Sunday, Sept. 19 (1 p.m.) for a nonconference game. The 25th-ranked Spartans (5-0) were scheduled to entertain No. 24 Ohio State on Friday afternoon in their Big Ten opener.
