Lacrosse Drops Season Opener At No. 5 Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Central Michigan lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with a 24-5 loss to fifth-ranked Notre Dame at the Fighting Irish's Loftus Sports Center.
Kendall Hoyt scored two goals for the Chippewas, while Audrey Whiteside, Maggie Diebold and Kelly Hoyt had one each. Hannah Potter was credited with one assist.
Erin Owens drew the start, the first of her career, in goal for the Chippewas. She made seven saves and surrendered 24 goals over 53 minutes. Freshman Alexa Martel made one save while playing the final seven minutes.
Notre Dame, which last year reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, outshot the Chippewas 40-13.
The Chippewas are scheduled to play at Louisville on Sunday, Feb. 20 (11 a.m.) before entertaining Youngstown State on Wednesday, Feb. 23 in their home and Mid-American Conference opener.
