"I thought we played better in the second half but, again, it's just putting four quarters together," said CMU coach Heather Oesterle. "I thought we came out flat (to start the game) … and we have got to get out to a better start."
EMU outscored the Chippewas in the paint, 56-32, and scored 32 points off of 18 CMU turnovers.
CMU's leading scorer, Molly Davis, missed the game, and the Chippewas looked to its squad of first-year players to deliver. Tiana Timpe led for CMU with 18 points, two shy of her career high. She hit six of eight 3-point attempts.
Karrington Gordon finished with a career-high 14 points and Lisa Tesson made 11.
Veteran players Jahari Smith and Anika Weekes finished with 11 and eight rebounds, respectively. Weekes added 11 points and Smith, the lone senior in the lineup on Senior Day, made eight.
"We've had a tough year, it's no secret." Oesterle said. "We're very, very young … we're working on seeing the bigger picture with getting these freshmen experience, and what it's going to look like next year when we start clicking again and get people that have experience playing together."
