Softball Falls Twice On Final Day At Bluegrass Challenge

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Central Michigan softball team wrapped up the Bluegrass Challenge on Friday with a pair of losses.
The Chippewas opened the day with a 6-5 loss to Indiana and then fell to host Louisville, 9-1.
CMU (9-10) is scheduled to open Mid-American Conference play next weekend with a three-game series at Akron.
The Chippewas scored four runs in the sixth inning to seize a 5-4 lead over Indiana. The Hoosiers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory.
Kelsey Alexander's three-run double highlighted the CMU sixth. Abbey Tolmie and Michaleigh Vallimont led CMU with two hits apiece and Caitlyn Britton hit her second homer of the season.
Kaitlyn Bean (3-3) allowed six runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out four in taking the loss.
The Hoosiers (10-4) got four singles to score the tying and then the winning runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Louisville (14-8) outhit the Chippewas, 11-2, in CMU's second game of the day. The Cardinals scored all nine of their runs in the first three innings. The game was called after 4 ½ innings on the run rule.
Britton had an RBI double and Samantha Mills singled for the Chippewas.
Lehto (4-5) started and took the loss. She allowed four runs on five hits and was replaced by Britton in the circle in the first inning.
Maddy Wallace also pitched in relief for CMU.
