Trio Of Gymnasts Earn All-MAC Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Three Central Michigan gymnasts were named to the All-Mid-American Conference teams for the 2022 season.
CMU's Hannah DeMers and Sierra DeMarinis each earned a spot on the six-member first team, while Katie Kowalski was named to the seven-member second team.
Selections are based on National Qualifying Scores with DeMers posting the top mark in the conference in the all-around (39.360), DeMarinis first on floor (9.910) and Kowalski second on vault (9.860).
All three Chippewas earned All-MAC honors in 2021, DeMers and Kowalski on the first team and DeMarinis on the second team. DeMers, a junior from Canton, also was named to the second team in 2020. DeMarinis is a senior from Montgomery, Mass., and Kowalski is a sophomore from Freeland.
The trio helped lead CMU to the MAC regular season co-championship, the Chippewas' first since 2019.
CMU will partake in the MAC Championships on Saturday, March 19, at Eastern Michigan. CMU is eyeing its first title at the MAC Championships since 2018.
The league's specialty awards – the gymnast, specialist, senior freshman and coach of the year -- will be announced on Saturday at the league championships.
