Gymnasts Post 4th Straight Score of 196-Plus

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Central Michigan gymnastics team posted a solid 196.275 team total on Friday in a nonconference quad meet at Illinois' Huff Hall.
It marked the fourth consecutive meet in which CMU has finished north of the 196 marker as the Chippewas finished ahead of Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois (194.475). The meet did not count in the league standings. CMU defeated the Huskies in their league meet at NIU on Feb. 20.
Illinois won Friday's quad with a 197.125, followed by Boise State (196.550), the Chippewas, and NIU.
The Chippewas close the regular season at home on Friday, March 11 (7 p.m.) with a MAC dual against Ball State and then look to the MAC Championships at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, March 19.
Sierra DeMarinis turned in the top finishes for the Chippewas on Friday as she tied for second on floor exercise and tied for second on balance beam. She posted a 9.900 score in both events. Her beam score was a season high.
CMU's Taylor Pitchell was fourth on floor exercise, tying her season high with a 9.875.
DeMarinis and teammate Avah Anthes tied for third on vault at 9.850, and the Chippewas' Hannah DeMers (9.875) tied for fourth on balance beam, matching her season and career best score in the event.
DeMers finished second in the all around with a 39.250 and she finished tied for ninth (9.825) on vault.
The vault score for Anthes, a freshman, was a career high.
CMU's top finisher on uneven parallel bars was Audriana Hammond, who finished eighth in matching her season high with a 9.875.
