LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A late rally ultimately fell short for the Central Michigan Field Hockey Team on Friday as the Chippewas fell, 3-2, in the first overtime period against Mid-American Conference opponent Bellarmine.
Â
The Chippewas are now 1-10 and 0-4 in the league.
Â
Two late CMU goals by freshman forward Zoey Emrick forced overtime at 2-2. In the first period of extra time, the Knights' Teresa Schmidt slipped a shot past the Chippewas to end the game.
Â
Emrick set the Chippewa offense ablaze in the fourth quarter as she recorded back-to-back goals, her first time scoring multiple goals in one period. Her first goal of the day was with just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation play, an assist-free shot to slash the Knights' lead in half.
Â
Fifty-seven seconds later, she did it again; this time off a pass from Kate Biglin, to tie the game.
Â
Goalkeeper Maja Halasz spent the full match in net. After seceding an early corner-shot goal from Bellarmine, she went on to save six of the Knights' seven shots on goal in regulation. In overtime, she saved three of four shots on goal.
The Chippewas recorded six shots, three of which were on goal. Emrick led the way with her two shots for both of CMU's goals; Kate Biglin also tallied a shot in range of the net.Â
Central Michigan is scheduled to play a non-league game against Louisville on Sunday (12 p.m.) at the Cardinals' Trager Stadium. Â
