Gymnastics Wins Fourth Straight, Upends Iowa State 195.600-194.800

Senior Hannah Demers registers top scores in vault and bars; Chippewas take lead on floor exercise, hold off Cyclones on beam.
AMES, Iowa—Senior Hannah DeMers notched high scores in both vault and bars as Central Michigan won its fourth consecutive gymnastics meet with a 195.600-194.800 victory over Iowa State Sunday at the Hilton Coliseum. With the win, Central Michigan improves to 5-1 in head-to-head competition on the year.
DeMers took first place in the vault (9.900) and uneven parallel bars (9.875), and finished in third place in the floor exercise with a 9.900. She was the only gymnast to compete in the all-around, totaling a 38.775.
Central Michigan began the day on bars, registering the top four scores in the competition. DeMers finished with a 9.875, junior Adriana Bustelo scored a 9.850, senior Audriana Hammond added a 9.825, and freshman Luciana Alvarado-Reid took fourth with a 9.800.
On the second rotation, the Chippewas gained the lead on vault, led by DeMers' 9.900, a 9.850 by sophomore Lia Kimieciak and 9.825s by Alvarado-Reid and junior Elizabeth Cesarone.
With a combined team score of 49.275, CMU maintained its lead with a stellar performance in the floor exercise. Senor Taylor Pitchell registered a 9.925, DeMers finished at 9.900, Alvarado-Reid notched a 9.875, and redshirt sophomore Hallie Hornbacher a 9.825.
Central Michigan held off Iowa State and sealed the victory with its beam scores as senior Aleysia Kolyvanova and Pitchell both notched 9.775s, while Bustelo totaled a 9.725.
Central Michigan gets back to MAC competition on Sunday, Feb. 19 at Western Michigan.
