Gymnastics Registers Second-Highest Team Score of the Season

Ball State nips CMU by 0.025 of a point, 196.100-196.075; Senior Hannah DeMers wins her fourth consecutive all-around competition after tying two career-highs.
MUNCIE, Ind.—In a tight Mid-American Conference matchup, the Central Michigan Gymnastics team posted its second-highest team score of the season, but Ball State narrowly edged the Chippewas by 0.025 of a point, 196.100-196.075, Sunday afternoon at Worthen Arena.
"It was a great competition from start to finish," Central Michigan Head Coach Christine MacDonald said. "We came up just short in the end."
For the fourth consecutive meet, senior Hannah DeMers won the all-around competition as she totaled a 39.475 score. She posted the best score in beam by tying a career-high with a 9.925, tied for the top score in bars (9.875), placed second in vault with a career-high tying 9.900, and took sixth in floor (9.775). Freshman Luciana Alvarado-Reid registered a combined 38.925 in the all-around.
DeMers led the Chippewas on bars with a 9.875, followed by senior Audriana Hammond at 9.850.
Vault was next as DeMers posted a 9.900, sophomore Lia Kmieciak finished at 9.875, and Alvarado-Reid tallied a 9.825.
Senior Taylor Pitchell led the Chippewas with a second-place 9.850 floor performance. Senior Aleysia Kolyvanova tallied a 9.800.
CMU ended the day on beam. DeMers posted her career-high tying 9.925 and junior Adriana Bustelo followed with a 9.825.
"It was great to see Lia and Hannah stick their vaults," MacDonald said. "On bars, Annie started us off with a strong performance and Hannah did great at the end. It was a working day on floor. Heading into the last rotation, our beam team did a nice job of staying composed and hit our season-high team score of 49.125.
Next up, Central Michigan travels to Morgantown, W.Va. to take on West Virginia next Sunday at 2 p.m.
