Baseball Falls in 10 at Michigan

madeANN ARBOR, Mich. – Jack Van Remortel homered with one out in the 10th inning on Tuesday as Michigan handed Central Michigan a 6-5 nonconference baseball loss at the Wolverines' Ray Fisher Stadium.
CMU (13-10) returns to Mid-American Conference play when it entertains Bowling Green in a three-game series beginning on Friday (3 p.m.) at Keilitz Field at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas led, 5-3, when Michigan (13-11) scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the game to extra innings.
Ryan Insco (0-1), the fifth Chippewa pitcher, took the loss. He relieved Michael Conte in the ninth inning.
Marquis Jackson led off the game for CMU with his fourth homer of the season, a towering shot to right field.
Trailing 3-2, the Chippewas scored two runs in the fifth inning to take a 4-3 lead.
CMU, which didn't hit a ball out of the infield in the inning, got a hit batter, a walk, a bunt single from Jacob Donahue, and an RBI infield hit from Garrett Navarra to tie it, 3-3.
Robby Morgan IV drove in a run with a groundout to put the Chippewas ahead.
CMU added a run in the seventh when Donahue walked, Navarra singled, and Morgan singled in Donahue.
Insco relieved Michael Conte in the ninth with one out and a runner at first. After a walk and a wild pitch put runners at second and third, Ted Burton smacked a two-run double to left to tie the game, 5-5.
The Wolverines made a bid to win it in the ninth when Dylan Stanton flew out to shallow left field with one out and Donahue, the CMU left fielder, made the catch and then made a picture-perfect throw to catcher Nick Dardas to get the runner tagging from third to keep the game tied and send it to extra innings.
Navarra finished with three of CMU's nine hits.
Ben Vitas started for CMU and allowed two runs on three hits over two innings. Nate Ross and Christian Mitchelle also pitched in relief.
