DeMers, Pitchell to Compete at NCAA Regional Thursday in Los Angeles

Senior Hannah DeMers (all-around) and senior Taylor Pitchell (floor) will travel to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete in the NCAA Gymnastics Regional; duo will compete on Thursday evening at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Central Michigan senior gymnasts Hannah DeMers (all-around) and Taylor Pitchell (floor exercise) will compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Gymnastics Regionals, set for March 29-April 1 in Los Angeles, Calif at famed Pauley Pavilion.
The duo will compete Thursday night in Session II beginning at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The duo has been paired with a competing team as DeMers will make the rounds with BYU and Boise State and Pitchell will perform with Stanford. The NCAA released its team and individual qualifiers for regional competition earlier this afternoon. More information is available at this link. UCLA specific information can be found at this link.
The top two teams and the top all-around competitor (who is not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships, which take place April 13-15 in Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, the top event specialist on each event who is not part of an advancing team or all-around competitor, advances to the national championship (in that event only).
For the second consecutive year, DeMers qualified for the NCAA Regional in the all-around competition. She becomes just the third gymnast in school history to quality for a second NCAA Regional as an individual, joining Daneille Espinoza (2006 and 2008) and Katie Simon (2007 and 2008). She also competed as an individual at the 2021 NCAA Nationals in bars.
DeMers is coming off a weekend that saw her earn the MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year award and become the first gymnast in school history to earn All-MAC regular season honors for the fourth time in her career, DeMers won three individual titles at the MAC Championships: all-around, bars, and floor. Her career-highs include a 39.550 in the all-around, 9.900 on vault, 9.950 on bars, 9.925 on beam, and 9.950 on floor.
Over her four-year career (2019-23), DeMers is a one-time MAC Gymnast of the Year (2022), one-time MAC Senior Gymnast of the Year (2023), three-time WCGA Academic All-American, five-time MAC individual champion (2021 uneven bars, 2022 all-around, 2023 all-around, 2023 uneven bars, 2023 floor), three-time MAC Championship All-Tournament Team member (2021, 2022, 2023), and two-time Academic All-MAC member (2021, 2022). DeMers has earned 13 total MAC weekly honors, including 12 Gymnast of Week accolades and one MAC Specialist of the Week award.
A native of Wethersfield, Conn., Pitchell became the 19th gymnast in school history to qualify for an NCAA Regional as an individual. Serving as Central Michigan's closer on floor exercise, Pitchell's career and season high was a 9.950. She posted a 9.900 in Saturday's MAC Championship and finished the season with a National Qualifying score of 9.800.
2023 Mid-American Conference champion Central Michigan finished as the 38th team nationally. The top 36 teams advance to NCAA Regional competition.
