Chippewas outrebound Broncos 47-37; Jean scores a team-high 11
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan evened up the season series between itself and Central Michigan Women's Basketball on Saturday, as the Chippewas fell to the Broncos in Kalamazoo, 76-49.
Turnovers told the story for CMU, which totaled 30 by the final buzzer. Western Michigan scored 34 of its points off of turnovers.
The Chippewas showed some fight in the fourth quarter. They nearly matched the Broncos' scoring pace, ending with 19 points in the frame compared to Western Michigan's 20.
Senior center Rochelle Norris was key for CMU in the final 10 minutes, scoring six of her eight points on an efficient 3-for-4 clip. She contributed total rebounds for the Chippewas, while also ending with a blocked shot.
Leading the way for CMU in the scoring column was graduate forward Nadège Jean, who chipped in 11 points in just 18 minutes. She also shot a team-high 5-for-7 from the free throw line.
Also enjoying an efficient day was junior Lisa Tesson. In 30 minutes of action, she made good on 4-of-5 field goal attempts for nine points, while also cashing in her lone 3-point attempt and hauling in six rebounds.
The rebounding discrepancy was rather large, as the Chippewas pulled down 47 boards compared to Western Michigan's 37. CMU also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, leading to eight second-chance points.
Both teams were held below 40% shooting from the floor. The Chippewas converted 34% of their shots, while the Broncos made 39%.
As the regular season schedule winds down, CMU will host Miami (OH) next Wednesday (Feb. 28) for a final midweek home matchup. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET.
