Alvarado-Reid Named MAC Gymnast of the Week

The Mid-American Conference announced Luciana Alvarado-Reid as the Week 8 Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan sophomore gymnast Luciana Alvarado-Reid has earned Mid-American Conference Gymnast of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
Alvarado-Reid, from Cartago, Costa Rica, a former Olympic gymnast and a Gym Stars (Costa Rica) alum, scored the 5th-highest all-around score in CMU history on Feb. 24, a career-high for the sophomore.
She totaled 39.525 between the four events, highlighted by a career-best 9.950 on the uneven bars, which serves as the 3rd highest score by a CMU gymnast in program history. Additionally, she posted a 9.900 on the floor exercise, a 9.825 on the vault and a 9.850 on the balance beam.
Through eight routines on the uneven bars this season, Alvarado-Reid is ranked 2nd in the MAC with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.860 and is 40th nationally in the all-around with a NQS of 39.190.
CMU Gymnastics, which is 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference standings, will travel to College Park, Md. for the Maryland Quad with the hosting Terrapins, George Washington University and William & Mary.
