Chippewas Drop Overtime Heartbreaker, 79-73, at Kent State

Central Michigan rallies in overtime but Kent State outscores Chippewas 15-9 in overtime period; Jemal Davis and Paul McMillan lead the Chippewas with 16 points apiece, Anthony Pritchard finishes with 14, Brian Taylor registers sixth double-double of year with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
KENT, Ohio—Kent State overcame a one-point deficit in overtime as it scored the game's final five points and sent the game into overtime with two free throws with two seconds in regulation as it defeated Central Michigan 79-73 in a tough, low-scoring, back-and-forth game Saturday at Kent State's MAC Center.
The loss drops Central Michigan to 16-13 overall and 10-6 in the MAC. Central Michigan is now in fourth place in the MAC standings, one game behind Ohio (11-5) and one game ahead of fifth place Miami, (OH) (9-7). Two regular season games remain for Central Michigan, which has already earned a berth into the MAC Tournament: at Northern Illinois on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET) and home against Eastern Michigan for Senior Day on Friday, March 8 (7 p.m.).
The Chippewas fell to 3-1 in overtime games and dropped to 13-1 when leading at halftime on the year.
Central Michigan led the game for a full 30 minutes and led by two points with two seconds to play in regulation. The Chippewas outshot Kent State (46.9 percent-38.6 percent), outrebounded the Golden Flashes 41-33, and outscored Kent State 52-24 in the paint.
Central Michigan battled back from a three-point deficit with a 6-0 run to take a 64-61 lead with 1:35 to go in regulation. Anthony Pritchard scored on a fast break layup after taking a pass from Paul McMillan IV, Pritchard banked in layup for a 62-61 lead with 1:35 to go, then Brian Taylor drove to the basket for a dunk and 64-61 lead with 50 seconds left.
Neither team scored until Kent State's VonCameron Davis was fouled with two seconds to go and converted both free throws to send the game into overtime, 64-64.
In overtime, Kent State outscored CMU 15-9 to win the game. Kent State grabbed a five-point lead when Giovanni Santiago hit a 3-pointer, then converted two free throws. After Santiago hit a layup for a 71-66 lead, CMU's Jemal Davis finished off a 3-point play and McMillan tied the game at 71-71 on a driving layup. After KSU's Reggie Bass hit a free throw, McMillan scored on another layup to give the Chippewas a 73-72 lead with 1:44 to play. But the Golden Flashes closed the game out when Santiago hit a jumper, Mike Bekelja swished a 3-pointer and Cli'ron Hornbeak hit two free throws.
The Chippewas played overtime without Pritchard, who fouled out with two seconds left in regulation.
The Chippewas were led by Jemal Davis and Paul McMillan IV, who both scored 16 points apiece. Pritchard finished with 14 points and five assists, and Brian Taylor added 13 points and 11 rebounds, his sixth double-double of the year and 10th of his career.

But Central Michigan went on a 10-0 run to take the lead back, 48-43, as Davis started the rally with a 3-pointer, Taylor followed up on a miss with a layup, McMillan hit a driving layup on a fast break, and Butler swished a 3-pointer for a 48-43 lead
