Four Chippewa runners competed on Friday, Newcombe in the 1500m and Turner, Prescott and Terakedis ran 5000m.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Central Michigan Track and Field opened the 2024 outdoor season on Friday at North Carolina State's Raleigh Relays, where four CMU runners opened the season for the Maroon and Gold.

Chippewa junior Natalie Newcombe and redshirt senior Anya Turner both started their outdoor season with personal bests in their respective events.

Newcombe competed in the 1500m, her first outdoor race since 2022, where she finished the race 154th in 4:39.27.

Turner finished the 5000m in 16:53.15, a significant personal best since her last 5000m, which was also at the Raleigh Relays in 2023.

Also for the Chippewas in the 5000m on Friday were Jelena Prescott, who finished in 17:19.79, and Kara Terakedis, who completed her first collegiate outdoor race in 17:54.73.

CMU will wrap up the Raleigh Relays on Saturday, where Turner and Newcombe will compete alongside teammates Ericka Bigham and Jessie Gibbins in the 800m run, scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
