Opening Night in Muncie Ends in Three-Set Loss for Volleyball

Natalia Rejment charted her 100th career ace as the Chippewas dropped a Thursday night match to Ball State.
MUNCIE, Ind. – Central Michigan Volleyball dropped a three-set match to Ball State for their final series of the 2025 season. With the loss, CMU is now eliminated from the potential of making the Mid-American Conference postseason tournament.
The Chippewas dropped the sets 22-25, 19-25 and 18-25. CMU moves to 9-20 on the 2025 season and 6-11 in MAC play while Ball State shifts to 20-9 overall and 16-1 in conference play.
In the first set, the Chippewas found their first point with a second touch point from Keelyn Muell.
CMU went on to take a lead at 12-9, but Coach Arielle Wilson called a timeout when the set was tied at 12 all.
For the point to make it 12-9, Natalia Rejment recorded her 100th career ace as a Chippewa.
The two teams went back and forth throughout the set, but the Chippewas again took the lead at 15-14. The second timeout of the set was called by Wilson as the Cardinals were the first to 20, 19-20.
Ball State held three set points, and at 22-24 in favor of the Cardinals, their head coach called a timeout. Central Michigan dropped the first set, 22-25 to the regular season champions.
In set two, the Chippewas jumped out to a 4-1 lead with three kills and an error from a Cardinal. Central Michigan gave up an 8-2 run before Coach Wilson called the first timeout of the second set. At 11-12, CMU got to within one after the deficit but again handed a 6-1 run to Ball State. Brooklyn Conner blocked back-to-back balls at the net to bring the score to 19-23 in favor of Ball State and force a Cardinal timeout late in the set.
After the second set, the Chippews had totaled six blocks as a team – Conner responsible for four of those rejections and Taylor Cripe, Grace Thomas and Keelyn Muell each also getting credit on two as well.
Central Michigan dropped the second set, 19-25 to the Cardinals and had to fight for their season in set three.
Coach Wilson called a timeout in the third set as CMU trailed 7-12 and again with a seven-point deficit at 12-19.
The Chippewas dropped the match to Ball State, 0-3 in Worthen Arena.
Natalia Rejment and Taylor Cripe each charted seven kills, Brooklyn Conner blocked four balls and Cripe, three.
The two teams will meet again for Central Michigan's' season finale on Friday night. First serve is slated for 6 p.m.
