Eastern Michigan Holds Off Chippewas, 84-73

Ugnius Jarusevicius scored 23 points with 11 rebounds; Jakobi Heady finished with 21 points (10-12 FT); host Eastern Michigan hits a season-high 12 3-pointers in win.
YPSILANTI, Mich.—Central Michigan's Ugnius Jarusevicius scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Jakobi Heady scored 21 points, but it was not enough as host Eastern Michigan built a first half lead and held off the visiting Chippewas for an 84-73 win Friday evening at the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
The loss snapped Central Michigan's two-game win streak and dropped the Chippewas to 13-16 overall and 6-10 in the MAC. Eastern Michigan improves to 14-15 overall and 8-8 in the MAC. Two games remain for Central Michigan: at Ball State on Tuesday, March 4 and home vs. Northern Illinois on Friday, March 7 (7 p.m.).
Eastern Michigan finished the game with 84 points, 11 points over their season average of 73.0, and hit a season-high 12 3-pointers. The Eagles even outrebounded the Chippewas 39-32.
Eastern Michigan was led by Da'Sean Nelson and Jalen Terry, who both scored a game-high 25 points. Nelson made 6-13 field goals, 13-14 free throws and grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with five assists. Terry made 8-15 field goals, 6-10 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds. Christian Henry added 13 points and Jalin Billingsley finished with 10 for the Eagles.
For Central Michigan, Jarusevicius registered his eighth double-double and eighth 20-point game of the season. He converted 10-17 field goals on the evening. Heady made 10-12 free throws and Anthony Pritchard totaled 15 points, seven assists and six assists.
The Eagles took control in the first half as they built an eight-point halftime lead, 44-36, fueled by seven 3-pointers and 47 percent shooting (17-36).
Eastern Michigan built a 22-12 lead, its largest lead up to that point. The Eagles outscored CMU 13-4 over a four-minute span. A Jalin Billingsley bucket off an alley-oop and Henry 3-pointer gave EMU a 10-point lead at the 12:01 mark.
It was a lead the Eagles would not relinquish as they pushed it to 16 points (38-22) on two Nelson free throws at the 5:46 mark.
In the second half, Central Michigan cut the deficit down to four points (54-50) at the 12:57 mark on a Pritchard driving layup, but that was as close as the Chippewas came.
Eastern Michigan answered with a 5-0 run on two Nelson free throws and a Terry 3-pointer.
Every time Central Michigan would make a run, the Eagles answered with scoring plays.
