Salmon Records 100th Win as Head Coach as Chippewas Split in Alabama

Central Michigan split in day two of the Trojan Classic hosted by Troy charting their first win of the season with a win over Tennessee State.
TROY, Ala. – A monumental win in a dominating fashion for the first victory of the 2025 season. Central Michigan Head Coach McCall Salmon recorded her 100th win as the head coach of the Chippewas with an 8-0 win over Tennessee State in six innings on Saturday evening. The victory marks the Chippewas' first win of the 2025 season.
CMU dropped the first game of the day against Samford in a 3-2 decision before rebounding for the victory over Tennessee State.
Central Michigan will close out the tournament on Sunday with its second matchup of the weekend against North Texas at 10 a.m. (ET).
Game 1
Brooklyn Compau took the start in the circle for CMU against Samford and threw 4.1 innings, striking out two and allowing all three runs. Cierra Laska entered for the final five outs facing five batters.
In the loss, CMU recorded five hits compared to Samford's eight. Maddison Diekman Allyssa Hollo and Emma Lotus each charted one and Carly Sleeman recorded two with her first home run of the season.
Samford scored in the first inning with an RBI double scoring a runner who walked.
An RBI single from Sleeman in the fourth tied the game at 1-1 before Samford responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run.
Samford added one more run when a runner scored from third as CMU threw the runner out stealing.
Sleeman's home run in the sixth brought CMU within one run, but the game ended at the final 3-2 in favor of Samford.
Game 2
Central Michigan found its bats in the game against Tennessee State and the Chippewas made the absolute most of it.
A scoreless game until the fourth inning was broken open with a double from freshman Tori Briggs, who marked her second game already as a Chippewa with multiple RBI.
In the fifth inning, CMU added one more run courtesy of a double from Grace Koenig which scored Samantha Souva after she entered as a pinch runner.
RBI singles from Sleeman, Jenna Kuzara and Koening in the sixth inning would then bring CMU to the inal score of 8-0 to clinch the victory in six innings.
In the win, CMU charted 10 hits and no Chippewas were retired at the plate via strikeout.
Mackenzie Langan went the distance in the circle for CMU grabbing her first victory of the season. Through her six innings pitched, she struck out four and walked just one batter over her 24 faced.
