Softball Drops Night Game to USF in Walk-Off Fashion

The Chippewas dropped their final game of the 2025 trip to Florida to USF in a single game in Tampa.
TAMPA, Fla. – A tough fought battle by both teams – a pitching duel, ended in a loss for CMU Softball in the final go around in Florida this spring.
CMU fell 1-2 to USF to move to 7-13 on the season, as the Bulls advance to 20-8 in their 2025 campaign.
Central Michigan will open Mid-American Conference play against NIU on March 15th and 16th in DeKalb.
The Chippewas finish the trip in Florida with a 3-3 record and two run-rule victories, dropping two of their three losses in one-run games in extra innings.
A 0-0 ball game until the fifth inning, CMU finally broke the scoreboard open with some action on the basepaths. Rachel Cairo drew a walk for the Chippewas to start off the inning, setting the table for a double from Keira Tolmie. Cairo crossed the plate when Maddie Springer reached on an error by the USF shortstop.
USF answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run.
Mackenzie Langan battled in the circle for CMU in the game under the lights and threw a complete eight innings. Langan moves to 4-5 on the season for the Chippewas and her performance on Tuesday night marks her fourth complete game of the 2025 season.
USF reached base in seven of the eight innings, but no run was scored that was not via home run.
The game tying run in the bottom of the fifth and the ultimate walk-off event, in the eighth, were both solo home runs.
