First-time honors for the Cartago, Costa Rica junior

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Central Michigan gymnast Luciana Alvarado-Reid has earned Mid-American Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Wednesday.

Alvarado-Reid, a junior from Cartago, Costa Rica was named to the honor for the first time after winning her eighth all-around title of the 2025 season on March 8 in CMU's quad meet victory over Western Michigan, Illinois and Wilberforce with a score of 39.250.

She won two events, the balance beam (9.850) and floor exercise (9.900) and additionally earned a second-place finish behind her teammate on the uneven bars (9.850), in helping CMU advance to 13-3 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.

The junior leads the league in the all-around with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 39.230 and is ranked 43rd nationally.

Alvarado-Reid maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.72 while studying English Literature, Language and Writing.
