Hinkle scores twice, DePrado marks first goal and assist in return to starting lineup
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Lacrosse dropped its second home nonconference game of the season Sunday, 13-6, to Cincinnati.
Sadie Hinkle (Medina, Ohio / Medina) scored twice for the Chippewas' second and third goals of the contest. She has scored five goals this season to lead CMU, all in the last three games.
Two prominent notes appeared during pregame introductions. Senior midfielder Emma Potter (Noblesville, Ind. / Noblesville) tallied her first career start, while attacker Skye DePrado (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) made her much-anticipated return to the lineup after starting the year battling injury.
Hanna Wenger (Loveland, Ohio / Loveland) scored her second of the season, 10th of her career, from a free position attempt midway through the first to put the Chippewas ahead early. Cincinnati, powered by fifth-year attacker and season scoring leader, Lauren Ottensmeyer, responded with nine unanswered goals over the next 20 minutes of play, six of which collected by Ottensmeyer.
Celia Dow (Penfield, N.Y. / Penfield) and Maggie Merrill (Marriotsville, Md. / Marriotts Ridge) each scored in the second half, earning assists for Anna Farrar (Milton, Ga. / Cambridge) and Isabella Bainbridge (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern).
DePrado marked her first point of the season on Hinkle's second goal of the day late in the third quarter. She followed it up with her first goal of the season in the final seconds, assisted by freshman Julia Werner (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township)—in her first appearance of the season.
Central Michigan set season-highs in draw controls (12) and caused turnovers (11).
Jozy Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio / Sycamore) became the eighth player in program history to eclipse 100 career draw controls on her third of five collected on the day. Her efforts led the Chippewas to win the draw, 12-11, for the first time this season.
Ava Regitz (Marietta, Ga. / Blessed Trinity) led the way with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Hinkle troubled Cincinnati's transition efforts with a pair of caused turnovers behind the Bearcats' restraining line. The combined performance pushed Cincinnati to be CMU's first opponent with 20-plus turnovers this season.
Alexa Martel (Rochester, N.Y. / Greece Olympia) posted nine saves, breaking a streak of three consecutive games in double digits. Four of her stops came in the fourth quarter during a 4-2 Chippewa run over the last 18 minutes of the contest.
Central Michigan Lacrosse heads out to Western New York for spring break visits to Niagara (March 9, 1 p.m. ET) and Canisius (March 12, 4 p.m. ET). CMU's next home contest opens the 2025 Mid-American Conference slate as it hosts Kent State (March 16, Noon ET).
