Busy Sixth Inning Ignites Softball to MAC Road Victory over Buffalo

Carly Sleeman and London Williams charted home runs in the fourth Mid-American Conference Victory of the season for softball.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Central Michigan Softball Team charted their fifth consecutive victory with a win over MAC opponent Buffalo at Nan Harvey Field on Friday afternoon.
The Chippewas advance to 12-15 on the season and 4-2 in MAC play, and Buffalo falls to 5-21 and 2-5 in conference play.
Saturday is scheduled to host a double header between the games to close out the series.
Madelyn Wallace took the circle for CMU and threw a complete seven innings. Wallace struck out five to match a season high. Buffalo recorded five hits off of Wallace and drew three walks.
Wallace recorded 1-2-3 innings in the bottom of the second and fourth with back-to-back strikeouts in the second.
The Chippewas got on the board first scoring two runs in the top of the third inning.
Keira Tolmie led off the inning and reached on an error by the Bulls' right fielder. Emma Lotus then laid down a bunt that hugged the third base line, and stayed fair for her first hit of the game. Maddison Diekman advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, to set the stage for the top of the order in Tori Briggs.
Briggs delivered a hit to right field that allowed Tolmie to score. Lotus crossed the plate in a first and third situation where she was able to steal home; 2-0 Chippewas.
Buffalo answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own on a two-RBI double to right center.
The teams were scoreless through the fifth until Carly Sleeman opened it up in the top of the sixth inning.
Sleeman sent a ball straight over the left center fence which ignited the offense for the Chippewas. The home run was her 11th of her sophomore year and her 15th in her career.
The next two batters for the Chippewas were retired in order, but the offense was not done fighting, scoring the next five runs on two outs.
Rachel Cairo hit a double to left center, Grace Koenig and Tolmie each drew a walk, and Jenna Kuzara delivered in a pinch-hit situation.
Kuzara worked a full count and then tripled down the right field line to allow three Chippewas to score; 6-2 CMU.
Diekman was up next and reached when the Bulls' third baseman dropped a pop fly, and Kuzara was able to score.
The final run of the game came from a solo home run for London Williams in the top of the seventh. The round tripper was the sixth of the season for Williams.
Pending weather, the Chippewas and Bulls will face off again on Saturday for a double header. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
