Chippewas Sweep Quad-Meet Over Western Michigan, Illinois & Wilberforce

Chippewas claim four events and four individual event victories.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Central Michigan Gymnastics soared on the road at the Western Michigan Quad while defeating host Western Michigan, Illinois and Wilberforce as the Chippewas posted an event-high team score of 195.850.
"I'm proud of our team's fight today," Central Michigan Gymnastics Coach Christine MacDonald said. "We started off strong on bars and kept the momentum through all four events."
The Chippewa gymnasts claimed four first place spots on bars, beam, floor and all-around and junior Luciana Alvarado-Reid, collected her eighth all-around title in 2025.
From its strong start to finish, the Chippewas bested Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan 195.850-195.775. Illinois finished in third place with a 195.300 and Wilberforce totaled a 178.125.
The Chippewas swept the uneven bars podium with a meet-high of 49.200. Senior Lia Kmieciak claimed the event win and tied her career-high with a score of 9.900. Samantha Shannon and Alvarado-Reid tied for second, each tallying a 9.850. Hannah Appleget finished in fourth place with a 9.825.
CMU also found success in the all-around, where Alvarado-Reid and Appleget both tied for first-place as each scored a 39.250. Alvarado-Reid took home two other first place finishes on floor and beam as he posted scores of 9.900 and 9.850, respectively. Appleget, scored a 9.875 on floor for second place and a 9.800 on beam for third place.
On vault, Kmieciak put up a 9.825 to secure second place and fellow senior Avah Bootz tied for third at 9.800.
Next up, CMU is set to face Northern Illinois for Senior Night at home on Friday, March 13. The final Mid-American conference meet for the Chippewas will begin at 6 p.m. in McGuirk Arena.
