Allen sets single-season draw control record, DePrado reaches 100 career points; CMU honors 11-player senior class
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Central Michigan Lacrosse took down Youngstown State, 13-8, for its third straight Mid-American Conference victory Sunday.
Â
The Chippewas recognized their 11-player senior class pregame: Jozy Allen, Skye DePrado, Celia Dow, Jane Durkin, Sadie Hinkle, Alyssa Lowe, Alexa Martel, Reagan Martinsen, Maggie Merrill, Emma Potter and Hanna Wenger. This veteran group took center stage with strong performances.
Â
Allen took the single-season record for draw controls with five in the game, passing Anna Schoonover's '19 2018 mark of 89, and is poised to become the first to collect 100 draws in a season in program history. She also posted a pair of caused turnovers to keep her potentially within range of the career mark, now seven away.
Â
DePrado became the program's 11th player to reach 100 career points, as one of five seniors to score twice in Sunday's outing. Her 87 career goals sits ninth in program history, though just three more will jump her to seventh, past Schoonover (88) and Emma Hamilton '20 (89).
Â
Merrill led the way with four points via two goals and two assists, followed by Hinkle, Wenger and Dow with three points apiece.
Â
Martel marked 15 saves on a season-high 65.2 percent save rate for her ninth double-digit performance of the season, her 37th of her career in 53 starts.
Â
Freshman Caye Kalbacher scored with 9:12 remaining in the second quarter to kick off a 7-1 run over a span of over 17 minutes of gametime. The Chippewa defense held the Penguins scoreless against even opportunities for nearly 22 minutes around the run, allowing one goal while down a defender to start the second half.
Â
Central Michigan Lacrosse stays in Mount Pleasant Wednesday to host Butler for the home, regular-season finale at 1 p.m. ET. The Chippewas then sit idle for 11 days through their bye week from MAC play before an important visit to Detroit Mercy April 27 (3 p.m. ET).
