Lotus Hits First Career Home Run as Softball Falls Just Short in Series Finale with Miami (OH)

Central Michigan Softball battled hard but ultimately feel to the RedHawks at Margo Jonker Stadium in the final game of the series.
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Emma Lotus made the final push for CMU with her first career home run in the top of the fifth inning, but the Chippewas could not hold on and close the game.
Central Michigan fell to Miami (OH) on Sunday afternoon in a 3-4 loss. CMU moves to 16-17 overall and 8-4 in the MAC while the RedHawks advance to 23-16 on the season and 13-2 in Mid-American Conference play.
The Chippewas took a game from Miami (OH) on Saturday when the two teams split but dropped the final game to end the series at 1-2.
Miami scored in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run, but the Chippewa defense held them scoreless for the next five innings, as Miami (OH) grabbed their final run via solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.
In the third inning, CMU grabbed two runs with an RBI single from Emma Lotus to score Keira Tolmie and an RBI single off the bat of Allyssa Hollo to plate Lotus.
The solo shot for Lotus in the fifth inning tied the game at three, but Miami (OH) retook the lead in the sixth for the final 3-4 score.
Madelyn Wallace took the start for CMU in the circle, throwing 3.2 innings issuing just five hits grabbing two strikeouts. Brooklyn Compau, who entered in the bottom of the fourth, took the loss in the circle.
Compau threw the final 2.1 innings issuing just one hit.
Central Michigan will next travel south to Ann Arbor where they will take on Michigan on Wednesday, April 9th. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Alumni Field at Carol Hutchins Stadium.
