Field Hockey Drops Season Opener at Drexel

Ashley Cogger logs 11 saves in Chippewa debut
PHILADELPHIA— The Central Michigan Field Hockey team lost it's season opener at Drexel 2-1 Friday.
Carolena Ryon earned the Chippewas a spot on the board netting a goal with 10 seconds remaining. The goal, coming from a corner set up by Teah Savignano and freshman Mora Rulli, came after three cards in quick succession on Drexel. In the final four minutes, Drexel collected two green cards before receiving a yellow with just over 30 seconds remaining in regulation.
Seven athletes made their Chippewa debut in Friday's match. Making their first career appearance were Pleun Van Gent, Bri Eckenroth, Rulli, Lola Pardo, Grace Shepherd, and Nora Evans. In goal making her first appearance in the maroon and gold was Ashley Cogger, a graduate transfer from Temple.
Cogger played the full 60 minutes, recorded 11 saves on 13 shots, allowing a goal in the final minutes of the first and second quarters.
The Dragons led the Chippewas in shots, sending 21 towards the cage, with 13 landing on target. CMU was able to put three shots on Drexel, with the lone shot on target finding the back of the cage.
The Chippewas will remain in Philadelphia this weekend for a noon match Sunday at Temple, a homecoming for Cogger.
