Chippewas Finish Strong in Iowa Quad Meet

CMU Gymnastics falls to No. 19 Iowa but outscores both SEMO and NIU.
IOWA CITY, Iowa. — The Chippewas posted a strong finish for second place in the Iowa Quad Meet with SEMO and Northern Illinois.
Central Michigan Gymnastics scored a 196.025 to defeat both SEMO (194.600) and NIU (193.300), but fell to No. 19 Iowa (196.500). The Chippewas are now 12-2 overall on the season, their two losses coming from top 20 teams.
"Tonight was a great meet and a great opportunity to compete in a quad format," Head Coach Chrstine MacDonald said. "This type of meet really prepares the team for the end of season championship settings."
Central Michigan scored a strong 49.200 on the floor exercise. Senior Luciana Alvarado-Reid took third in the event with a 9.875.
The CMU uneven bars team, ranked No. 18 heading into this meet, achieved a 49.100 on Friday night. Graduate student Lia Kmieciak marked a 9.925 for second place and sophomore Kaitlyn Schwab posted a career high 9.875.
A 48.700 team total on beam aided the Chippewas finish on Friday. Sophomore Zoë Zimmerman achieved a career best at 9.800.
"Zoë and Kaitlyn both really stayed very composed and were very focused on the details tonight. They both have been finding a very good flow in practice, and it showed again tonight."
The Chippewas tied their season best vault team score with a 49.025.
Alvarado-Reid placed third out of four all-arounders with a 39.250 score.
The Chippewas head back to McGuirk Arena for their final home meet of the season against Ball State on March 13 (6 p.m.).
"We are looking forward to competing at home for one last time this season. Senior night is always very special and we can't wait to celebrate our seniors."
