MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State scored nine runs in its final three turns at bat on Saturday in handing Central Michigan an 11-6 loss in the second game of a three-game Mid-American Conference baseball series at the Cardinals' Shebek Stadium.

CMU won Friday's series opener, 8-7. The teams play the rubber match on Sunday (1 p.m.). CMU is 6-6, while Ball State is 6-7. Both teams are 1-1 in MAC play.

Cole Prout led off the game with his team-leading fourth home run of the season and Bryson Webb finished with three hits to lead CMU at the plate.

Ball State pinch hitter Kenskey Thomas hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to tie the game, 6-6, and chase CMU starter Luke Neiswonger.

Brett Griffiths led off the seventh to put the Cardinals in front, 7-6, and Ball State added two more runs on an RBI double and an RBI groundout.

DJ Scheumann hit a two-run homer in the eighth for the final margin.

Max Hammond (0-1), the third of six CMU pitchers, took the loss.

Neiswonger, a freshman right-hander, allowed six runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out seven over 5 1/3 innings.

Nate Ross, Carter Campau, Jack Potteiger and Jack Griffiths also pitched in relief for the Chippewas.

Zach Kwasny (1-0) struck out five in shutting out the Chippewas over the final 3 2/3 innings in earning the win.
