Personal: Born Luciana Alvarado Reid … daughter of Sherily Reid and Alejandro Alvarado … youngest of three sisters who also competed in gymnastics … sister is Mariana Sanchez Reid, former Costa Rican National team member and elite competitor, and serves as an assistant coach at her mother’s gym … nickname is Luci … included a Black Lives Matter tribute in her floor routine at the Olympics … took up the sport at the age of two as her mother was a former gymnast … claims she practically grew up in the gym with her mom … chose Central Michigan because from the beginning she felt comfortable, the support she felt, and could see herself being a part of the team and school.
