Vince Smurro

Vince Smurro was added to CMU head coach Jerry Reighard's staff as an assistant in August 2014.
Smurro, who is originally from Manasquan, N.J., most recently coached at Devlin Gymnastics as a USAG Women's Coach in his hometown. At Devlin, he developed daily workout assignments for levels 5-10 on uneven bars, vault and floor exercise and learned optimal spotting techniques for various releases on the bars in addition to double flipping and twisting tumbling passes on floor.
Prior to Devlin, he gained initial coaching experience at the US Gymnastics Development Center in Mahwah, N.J. from 2008-09.
Smurro boasts an impressive competitive resume. Initially, a member of the gymnastics team at William & Mary, he earned USAG All-America honors in 2010 on the high bar and in 2011 on the parallel bars.
Smurro finished his collegiate career at Illinois where he won a Big Ten and NCAA team championship in 2012. An anchor of the Illini's floor line-up, he finished sixth at the 2013 Big Ten Championships and 10th at NCAAs. Smurro owns the third-highest floor score in Illinois program history.
A two-time College Gymnastics Association First Team Academic All-American, Smurro graduated with high honors from the University of Illinois in May 2013 with a bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Health.
