Chippewa Women Fall to WMU, 86-55

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Poor shooting and turnover woes cost the Central Michigan University women's basketball team in an 86-55 Mid-American Conference loss here Monday night to Western Michigan University.
The Chippewas have dropped three in a row and stand 7-9 for the season, 1-4 in MAC action. The Broncos, playing without 6-3 start center Kristin Koetsier, have won five straight and sport a 10-4 overall mark. WMU is now 4-0 in league play.
CMU controled the early going, leading by as many as seven points at 20-13 with 8:29 before the break. The Broncos outscored the Chippewas by a 22-6 margin the rest of the half to claim a 35-26 lead at the break. CMU scored only one point in the final 5:33, and stayed at 26 points the final 4:31.
Western Michigan put the game out of hand in the early moments of the second half, extending its lead to 20 points with 10:36 remaining at 58-38.
The Chippewas finished with 21 turnovers to just 11 for the Broncos while CMU meshed just 23-of-63 for 36.5 percent. WMU filled it up at a 54.2 percent clip on 32-of-59 from the field.
Junior guard Lauren Yops had a season-high 17 points for CMU followed by freshman Erin Kuhl with 14 (she hit four-of-six threes) and senior Desiree Eidson with 11.
The Broncos were led by Curletta Harris with 22, Casey Rost with 16 and Lori Crisman at 11.
The Chippewas have little time to recover from this loss, heading out to Northern Illinois for a Wednesday night tilt at 7 p.m. (CST).
