MOUNT PLEASANT - A balanced Kent State offensive attack led the Golden Flashes to a 3-1 road victory over host Central Michigan University on Saturday night.
Game scores were 28-30, 30-23, 30-16 and 30-18. KSU is now 4-4 overall, 1-0 in MAC play while CMU drops to 4-9 overall, 1-2 in conference action.
The Chippewas won the close opening game thanks to .233 hitting, but after that CMU's offense struggled and was one dimensional compared to the multi-faceted KSU approach. The Golden Flashes cruised passed CMU in the final two games as the Maroon and Gold hit -.031 in game three and .069 in game four.
Emily Lovejoy led the Chippewas with 15 kills and a .297 attack percentage but she was the lone CMU player in double figures as Meghan Moore added nine kills and Kristen Buter seven. Those three were the only Chippewas with positive attack percentages as CMU hit a season-low .096 for the match.
Kent State posted a .289 hitting percentage and 11.0 team blocks en route to the victory. Ruth Ladurner-Schnitzer posted a match-high 16 kills on .542 hitting, along with seven blocks and a pair of service aces. Returning first team All-MAC selection Danielle Holt added 15 kills, nine digs and three aces while Sarah Wilber posted 11 kills and four blocks.
Ali McCrite had 12 digs and Lovejoy added seven. Jaimeson Whitman once again got the starting nod at setter and she dished out 32 assists.
CMU tallied just six blocks to the Flashes' 11 and the Chippewas committed a season-high 10 ball handling errors.
Next up for the Chippewas is a conference road trip to Toledo and Eastern Michigan next weekend, Oct. 1-2.
