Women's Basketball Falls at Western Michigan, 86-75

KALAMAZOO - A hot-shooting Western Michigan squad handed the Central Michigan University women's basketball team an 86-75 road loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroon and Gold fall to 10-16 overall, 4-11 in the Mid-American Conference while WMU improves to 10-17, 7-9 in conference play.
Tops for the Chippewas was sophomore Ann Skufca with a season-high 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Casey Manning also had a fine performance with 14 points, a team-high seven rebounds, and game-high seven assists. Manning was 3-of-6 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line. Chasidy Myers also hit double-figures with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
The Chippewas held a one-point lead at the half, 34-33, but the Broncos went on a 19-8 run the first eight minutes of the second half to take control of the game. WMU's Carrie Moore led the way during the run, scoring 12 of the 18 points. Moore was held to just five points in the first half, but finished the contest with a game-high 21.
As CMU tried to battle back into the game, WMU stayed hot, shooting .708 from the field in teh second half to earn the victory. The Broncos were even hotter from three-point range in the half, hitting 6-of-8 threes. They were also 13-of-16 from the line. For the game, WMU shot .583 (28-of-48) from the floor, .714 (10-of-14) from behind the arc and .833 (20-of-24) from the charity strip.
In turn, the Chippewas shot just .386 (27-of-70) for the game, hitting just 3-of-16 three-point attempts, a mark of .188. The squad was solid from the line, making 18-of-22 free throws, including going 12-for-12 in the second half.
WMU's two seniors were honored before the game and both had standout performances. Forward Kelly Koerber had 20 points while guard Kim Driggett had a career-high 18. Koerber was a perfect 7-of-7 from the line with Driggett hitting 3-of-4 three-point attempts.
CMU committed just 12 turnovers compared to 24 for the Broncos with WMU winning the rebounding battle, 36-31. The Chippewas did have 17 offensive boards compared to just seven for Western.
The Chippewas finish off the regular season with a home game against Ball State next Tuesday, March 1. Tip off is set for 7 p.m., in Rose Arena.
