Â
BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State scored four second-half goals on Friday in handing Central Michigan a 5-1 Mid-American Conference field hockey loss at the Mountaineers' Adcock Field.
Â
CMU slipped to 1-14, 0-4 MAC. Appalachian State is 5-10, 1-3.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mountaineers seized a 1-0 lead less than four minutes into the game, and then increased their lead to 3-0 with two goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half.
Â
Cara Satre scored on a rebound off a penalty corner for the Chippewas with about 10 minutes remaining. It was her second goal of the season.
Â
The Chippewas finished with nine shots, their second-highest total of the season. They also had four penalty corners.
Â
Lily Amadio made 14 saves in goal for CMU.
Â
CMU COACH CATHERINE OSTOICH
"We decided to start attacking the last 11 minutes of the game, but it took us forever to start attacking. We did not value the ball today, and that really hurt us.
Â
"We did have some more shots, which is great, but they came at the end of the game when we really needed them at the beginning of the game. We have to start faster. We are not ready at the beginning of the game and kind of let teams settle in on us and we have to take charge first and we have to get on the board first.
Â
MOVING FORWARD
"We're going to take the positives from this game, we are going to take things that we need to work on and we're going to kind of forget about it and move on," Ostoich said. "There are definitely a couple things that were going to watch film on. And we are going to value the ball tomorrow in practice and carry that over for us into Sunday."
NEXT
The Chippewas will remain in North Carolina and play at Davidson on Sunday (noon) in their final nonconference game of the season.
Davidson is 4-8 and coming off a 1-0 loss to Saint Francis, which handed CMU a 4-3 overtime loss on Sept. 7.
