ATHENS, Ohio -- The Central Michigan field hockey team traveled to Athens, Ohio and lost to the UC Davis Aggies 3-0. The Chippewas drop to 1-10 while the Aggies improve 5-6.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sara Janetzky broke the scoreless tie with a goal with just 7 seconds remaining in the first half off a penalty corner. UC Davis added two insurance goals in the second half.
Â
The Aggies finished with 16 shots and eight penalty corners. The Chippewas had five shots and five penalty corners.
Â
CMU goalkeeper Lily Amadio made four saves.
Â
CMU COACH CATHERINE OSTOICH
"We actually dominated for most of the first half and we dominated for the first 10 minutes of the second half, we just couldn't just get anything. We were literally in their defensive 25 for most of the first half and for the first 10 minutes of the second half, we just couldn't earn anything. It's just unfortunate because we played really well, we dominated for the first time in a while. We just could not finish.
Â
"We followed the game plan, we did everything we were supposed to do, and we just couldn't finish. We're close, we've just got to put it all together. They got a corner at the end of the first half and they got a goal and I think that rocked us a little bit. But then we can out strong in the second half and we were absolutely pounding (the net), but we just couldn't finish."
Â
NEXT
The Chippewas will remain in Athens to play Ohio in. Mid-American Conference game on Sunday (noon). The Chippewas are 0-1 in league play. Ohio is 3-4, 1-0 MAC. The Bobcats defeted UC Davis, 1-0, on Thursday.Â
