Chippewas look to complete sweep of early season road trip
DeKALB, Ill. – So far, all good for Central Michigan in defense of its Mid-American Conference championship.
The Chippewa women figure to face yet another battle on Saturday (2 p.m.) when they play at Northern Illinois.
CMU, which is 11-3 overall, is 2-0 in the MAC. The Huskies are 9-5, 1-1 and coming off an 87-78 league loss to Kent State, which ended NIU's win streak at five games.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas handed Ohio its first loss of the season, 88-70, in Athens, Ohio.
The game followed a similar pattern to the Chippewas' 94-71 MAC-opening win at home over Akron: The game was tight early on, and then the Chippewas hit the gas and upped their lead to a comfortable margin to win going away.
CHIPPEWA NOTES
CMU forward Reyna Frost continued her emergence as one of the MAC's top players, posting her eighth consecutive double-double in CMU's victory over Ohio. Frost scored 23 points and hauled down a season-high 17 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the season.
Her performance came four days after she became the MAC's career rebounding leader in the Chippewas' victory over Akron.
On Monday, Frost was named the MAC West Player of the Week for the third consecutive week, and on Tuesday the mathematics major from Reese with a 3.70 grade point average, was named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week.
Guard Presley Hudson led CMU with 24 points against the Bobcats, bringing her career total to 1,936. She needs 71 points to surpass Crystal Bradford as CMU's career scoring leader.
Hudson ranks third in the MAC in scoring at 21.5 points per game, while Frost is fourth at 18.4. Frost leads the MAC and ranks 14th nationally with 11.5 rebounds per game.
RANKINGS
The Chippewas are ranked fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll and are fourth in the ESPNW Mid-Major Poll. CMU is also receiving votes in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls.
SCOUTING
Northern Illinois' Mikayla Voigt ranks second in the MAC in scoring at 21.9 points per game, while teammate Ally May is fourth in the league in rebounding (7.3 per game).
Northern Illinois ranks second in the MAC in scoring at 82.9 points per game, while the Chippewas (79.8) are third. The Chippewas are holding opponents to 65.6 points per game; NIU ranks 12th in that category at 73.7.
Ohio is the MAC's top-scoring team, averaging 83.1 points per game. CMU held the Bobcats to a season-low 70 in its victory on Wednesday. Ohio is ranked third in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
NIU has posted the two highest-scoring offensive games among MAC teams this season. The Huskies scored 114 against Chicago State on Dec. 21 and they scored 109 against Brown on Jan. 31.

The Chippewas play host to Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday, Jan. 16 (7 p.m.). The RedHawks, who play host to Buffalo on Saturday, are 10-3, 1-1.
