Big second half, help from bench, enables CMU to hold off Kent State
KENT, Ohio – Nobody ever said it would be easy, and it certainly wasn't.
The Central Michigan women's basketball team got a strong performance from its bench on Saturday in overcoming foul trouble to hold off Kent State, 82-75, in a Mid-American Conference game at the Golden Flashes' Memorial Athletic Convocation Center.
The Chippewas bounced back from their MAC loss to Miami (Ohio) three days previous to remain atop the MAC West at 4-1. They are 13-4 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Chippewas outscored the Golden Flashes, 49-39, in the second half to pull away and then hold on.
The Chippewas led, 57-55, to open the fourth quarter and then went on a 9-4 run to increase their lead to nine, 68-59. The Chippewas bumped their lead to 14 points, 81-67, with just over a minute to play.
The Chippewas got solid performances from reserves Jaeda Robinson, Gabby Bird and Kyra Bussell as stars Presley Hudson and Reyna Frost battled foul trouble. Robinson, a senior, logged a season-high 19 minutes.
"Those three came in and did a great job for us," CMU coach Sue Guevara said. "To see them play and get some minutes and produce on both ends of the floor, I'm really happy for them."

Micaela Kelly scored 20 points and tied her season high with seven rebounds to lead the Chippewas.
Hudson added 18 points before sitting out the entire fourth quarter with four fouls, while Frost has 17 points and eight rebounds in 31 minutes. Bussell added 15 points.
