MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan field hockey team returns home from a West Coast road trip with a Mid-American Conference game on Sunday (noon) against Ohio at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
The Chippewas are 2-11, 0-3 MAC, while the Bobcats are 5-4, 2-1.
Starting Fast
Looking to turn things in a positive direction, CMU coach Catherine Ostoich said it is imperative that the Chippewas off to a strong start.
"I think the past couple games, we've had decent starts," she said. "We just have to get something in the first five, ten minutes of the game and really take advantage of whatever opportunities we have."
Though Ostoich wants to see a strong start from her Chippewas, she also realizes the team needs to carry that same effort for the entirety of the match.
"The big thing is, we have to execute," she said. "I don't know if we have executed from start to finish … We have to be able to walk away and say 'OK, we executed the game plan 90 percent of the game, if not the full 60 minutes.'"
Getting a Win in the MAC
Despite CMU's recent struggles, Ostoich said she believes getting a MAC win could shift the momentum for CMU the rest of the season.
"It would be massive for our confidence, just for everything to get through the rest of this season," she said. "It would be huge, especially against Ohio. They're a good team, they've had some good wins this season. We know we have to put the work in, and it's got to be for the whole 60 minutes."
Leaders
Both teams will feature players who are among the statistical leaders in the MAC. For the Chippewas, Alice O'Hagan remains in the MAC top 10 in points, goals, shots and shots on goal, while Taryn Damm is tied for fourth in the league in assists.
The Bobcats' Kendall Ballard leads the MAC in points and is among the top 10 in goals, assists, shots and shots on goal.
