CMU Women Fall At Western Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky outscored Central Michigan, 52-23, in the second half on Sunday as the Hilltoppers handed the Chippewas a 93-58 nonconference women's basketball loss at E.A. Diddle Arena.
The loss was the third for the Chippewas in as many starts as they continue to battle through a rugged nonconference schedule under first-year coach Heather Oesterle.
CMU opened with a 111-105 double-overtime loss to mid-major power Green Bay and then fell, 76-63, at No. 9 Louisville on Thursday. The Chippewas' next four games are at home, beginning with Dayton on Thursday, Nov. 21 (noon).
Dayton (3-1) is another strong mid-major program. The Flyers' lone loss this season came to No. 6 South Carolina, 75-49.
How It Happened
The Chippewas trailed by just six, 41-35, at halftime to Western Kentucky (3-1) on Sunday. The Hilltoppers opened the third quarter with a 13-4 run to bump their lead to 15, 54-39.
The Chippewas never got closer than 13 points the rest of the way and were down 22, 67-45, entering the fourth quarter.
Leaders
Micaela Kelly scored 17 points to lead CMU, while Kyra Bussell added 11. Bussell led CMU with seven rebounds.
Dee Givens scored 21 points to lead four Hilltoppers in double figures.

The Chippewas were outrebounded, 48-24. Western Kentucky finished with 21 offensive rebounds and scored 24 second-chance points. The Chippewas had 10 offensive boards and eight second-chance points.
