Chippewa Women Head To Bowling Green

CMU moves up to 7th in mid-major poll
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The closer to March, the bigger they get.
The Central Michigan women's basketball team heads to Bowling Green on Wednesday (7 p.m.) for a Mid-American Conference game with the Falcons.
It marks the Chippewas' third-consecutive road game. They won at Western Michigan one week ago, and they were victorious at Buffalo on Saturday.
WHERE THEY STAND
The Chippewas are 18-6, 9-3 MAC and lead the West Division by 1 ½ games over second-place Northern Illinois. The Huskies (16-9, 8-5) visit CMU on Saturday (1 p.m.).
Miami (Ohio) leads the East at 10-2, while Ohio is one-half game back at 10-3.
The team with the best record in MAC play is the regular-season champion and the No. 1 seed in the MAC Tournament, which begins with on-campus games on Monday, March 11. The tournament quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game are set for Cleveland from March 13-16.
RANKINGS
The Chippewas are seventh this week in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Other MAC teams in the poll are Ohio, 10th; Miami, 15th; and Buffalo, 16th.
At 24, CMU holds the best RPI among MAC teams. Ohio, 35, is second, followed by Buffalo, 38; Miami, 49; Toledo, 75; Kent State,81; and Northern Illinois, 95.
SCOUTING
Bowling Green is 8-15, 1-11 after a 77-73 loss at Kent State on Saturday. The Falcons posted their only MAC win of the season three days prior when they knocked off Buffalo, 78-72, at home.
Andrea Cecil, a 6-foot-1 junior guard/forward, leads Bowling Green in scoring at 15.3 points per game. She is one of four Falcons who average in double figures in scoring. The others are Morgan McMillen (14.3), Sydney Lambert (11.7) and Angela Perry (11.3). Katie Hempfling, a 5-9 freshman, is BGSU's leading rebounder at 8.4 per game.
Bowling Green ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring at 70.7 points per game. The Falcons are allowing 73.7 points per game, which ranks last in the MAC.
Wednesday's game is the only regular-season meeting between the two teams in 2018-19. The game was scheduled for Jan. 30 but postponed because of weather.
LAST TIME OUT
The Chippewas saw their 19-point second-half lead shrink to one, 96-95, with under a minute to play at Buffalo on Saturday. Kyra Bussell scored to put CMU up three, 98-95, and then Micaela Kelly slapped away a Buffalo entry pass and Gabriella Bird came up with the ball as the Chippewas posted a 100-95 victory.

• Senior Reyna Frost continued her sensational senior season by posting her 21st double-double of the season and the 54th of her career on Saturday at Buffalo. She had 23 points and 14 rebounds just three days after she tossed in a career-high 33 points, and grabbed 20 rebounds, in leading CMU to a 87-53 win at rival Western Michigan.
• Frost became the eighth player in CMU program history to score at least 1,500 points with her performance against the Broncos. She stands sixth on the Chippewas' career scoring with 1,552 points. She needs four points to move past Britni Houghton, who scored 1,555 points from 2007-10.
• Chippewa guard Presley Hudson ranks second in the conference in scoring at 20.9 points per game, while Frost is third (20.5). Frost leads the MAC and ranks third in the nation in rebounding (13.2 per game).
• Frost last week was named one of 10 finalists for the Katrina McClain Award, which goes to the best power forward in college basketball. Previously, Hudson was named one of 10 finalists for the Nancy Lieberman Award, which goes to the top point guard in the game.
• Frost has been named the MAC West Player of the Week in each of the last four weeks, and has earned the honor eight times this season.
