Chippewas can clinch MAC West title share with a win
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Four Mid-American Conference games to play, and the Central Michigan women's basketball team is right where everybody thought it would be.
The Chippewas play their next two games on the road – the first is Wednesday (7 p.m.) at Ball State – before playing their final two regular-season contests at home in McGuirk Arena.
WHERE THEY STAND
The Chippewas are 20-6, 11-3 MAC and in first place in the West Division. If they win on Wednesday, they clinch at least a tie for the division title, their fourth straight. They hold a three-game lead on Toledo and Northern Illinois, both of whom are 8-6 in league play.
CMU trails Miami (Ohio) by one game for the best record in the MAC. The RedHawks are 12-2 and are scheduled to play at Kent State on Wednesday.
Miami holds the tie-breaker over the Chippewas, head-to-head result, having beating CMU in their only regular-season meeting, 70-67, six weeks ago. The overall regular-season champion earns the No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament.
The Chippewas are ranked seventh in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. Ohio is ranked 10th, Miami is 15th and Toledo, Kent State and Northern Illinois are receiving votes in the poll.
The Chippewas received two votes in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll.
