Chippewas can wrap up third straight MAC regular-season outright championship
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – It's simple: A win gives the Central Michigan women's basketball team its third-consecutive outright Mid-American Conference regular-season championship.
The Chippewas will attempt to make that title all their own – they already own a share – and they will celebrate and honor their senior class on Saturday (1 p.m.) when Toledo comes to McGuirk Arena for the regular-season finale and CMU's final home game of the season.
The Chippewas, who a week ago wrapped up their fourth-consecutive MAC West title, are 22-6, 13-3 MAC. Toledo is 19-9, 11-6. CMU leads the overall MAC standings by one game over Ohio. A CMU win or an Ohio loss on Saturday (the Bobcats play host to Bowling Green) gives the Chippewas not only the outright crown, but also the No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament.
Saturday's game marks the last at home for seniors Presley Hudson, Reyna Frost and Jaeda Robinson.
THE LEGACY
Saturday's game is the last for Chippewa fans to witness Hudson, Frost and Robinson at McGuirk Arena.
That trio has been a part of perhaps the most successful era in CMU women's basketball history, winning four MAC West championships, three overall MAC regular-season titles, one (for now) MAC Tournament title, and a program first – the run to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament in 2018.
The Chippewas are 97-31 in their near-four years in the program, 52-11 in the 2017-18 and '18-19 seasons.
Hudson is the program's career leader in scoring and assists, and Frost its leading rebounder – the MAC career leader, in fact – and ranks fourth in program history in scoring.
SCOUTING
The Rockets handed the Chippewas one of their three league losses this season, 62-59, on Jan. 23.
Kaayla McIntyre leads the Rockets in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Two others, Nakiah Black and Mikaela Boyd, both average in double figures. McIntyre ranks fourth in the MAC in rebounding at 8.4 per game.
The Rockets have won four consecutive games.

The Chippewas will play in a quarterfinal game in the MAC Tournament at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Wednesday, March 13.
