Chippewa Women Go To Loyola On Monday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women's basketball team will head to Chicago on Monday to take on Loyola in a nonconference game (1 p.m.).
The Chippewas (3-2), who are ranked fifth in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, are coming off a 79-70 loss at Michigan State on Friday. CMU's other loss came at Michigan in its season opener.
The Wolverines and Spartans are a combined 11-0; Michigan is ranked 19th in both the Associated Press and Coaches polls, and MSU is among others receiving votes in both polls.
CMU gave Michigan State all it could handle before the Spartans went on a 10-0 game-breaking run in the fourth quarter.
Micaela Kelly scored 26 points and Kyra Bussell added 14 for CMU. Kelly, the reigning Mid-American Conference Player of the Year, has averaged 27.5 points in her last two games and is at 23.0 for the season. She ranks third in the MAC and is tied for 20th nationally.
Leaders
Sophomore guard Molly Davis is averaging 18.4 points per game for the Chippewas, while Bussell is at 12.4 and leads CMU in rebounding at 7.4 per.
Where They Stand
Davis ranks 10th in the league in scoring and is fifth in free throw shooting percentage (.909). CMU senior guard Maddy Watters has made 57.9 percent of her 3-point attempts (11 for 19) and ranks fifth in the league in that category.
Kelly, Watters and Davis all rank in the top eight in the conference in 3-pointers per game. As a team, CMU is making 11 triples per outing, ranking second in the league, and is knocking down 3-pointers at a .364 clip, ranking third.
Davis is fourth in the league with 4.2 assists per game and Bussell is fourth in steals (1.0 per) and is ninth in rebounding.

Loyola, which plays in the Missouri Valley Conference, is 2-1 and coming off an 80-61 win over Purdue Northwest on Friday. The Ramblers opened with a 70-57 win over Chicago State and then lost to DePaul, 76-67. The Blue Demons are ranked 24th in the AP poll and 23rd in the Coaches poll.
Three Ramblers – Maya Chandler, Allison Day and Sitori Tanin – average in double figures. Chandler, a freshman guard, averages 13.0 points per game; Day, a 6-foot-1 junior, averages 11.7 points and a team-best 8.3 rebounds; Tanin, a 6-2 freshman, averages 10.3 points per game.

Loyola ranks 13th in the nation in 3-point defense. Its opponents have made just 15 of their 73 attempts (20.5 percent). The Chippewas are making 36.4 percent of their triple tries on the season (55 of 151).
