Gymnasts Make Home Debut On Sunday

CMU welcomes rival Kent State for MAC dual
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Central Michigan gymnastics team will hit the home gym for the first time this season when the Chippewas entertain Mid-American Conference rival Kent State on Sunday (1 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena.

The Chippewas are 3-3, 1-1 MAC and coming off a nonconference loss at Southern Utah. Their MAC victory came over Eastern Michigan on Jan. 19; their league loss came at Northern Illinois two weeks ago.

The Chippewas are ranked 33rd nationally, the highest among MAC teams, with a 194.900 average. CMU's season-best 195.625 came in its season-opening victory in a nonconference tri-meet at Michigan State.

As a team, CMU is ranked 16th nationally in the vault. The Chippewas are 35th on floor exercise, 36th on uneven parallel bars, and 41st on balance beam.

Individually, CMU senior Denelle Pedrick is ranked 22nd nationally in the all-around. She is the top-ranked Chippewa in the vault (31st), floor (36th), and bars (57th).

Kent State is 8-1, 0-1 and ranked 39th nationally with a 194.435 average, which is fourth among MAC teams. The Golden Flashes' league loss came at home to Northern Illinois on Jan. 12 and they have won eight-consecutive duals.

The Golden Flashes posted their top score of the season, 196.050, on Feb. 2 in a nonleague home meet with George Washington. They defeated Cornell a week ago, scoring 192.725.
