CMU goes to Bowling Green for Friday-night MAC dual
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan gymnastics team goes back on the road this weekend for a Mid-American Conference dual.
The Chippewas are scheduled to take on Bowling Green on Friday (6 p.m.) at the Falcons' Anderson Arena.
CMU is coming off a close home loss to Kent State. The Chippewas finished with a 195.075 score to the Golden Flashes' 195.175. CMU is 3-5, 1-2 MAC. Bowling Green is 5-5, 0-3, and has won its last two duals, both nonleaguers, over Illinois State and Temple.
The Chippewas
CMU has had its ups and downs this season and lineup adjustments have been frequent. While that has certainly cost the Chippewas points, it has helped in building their depth and in gaining experience for a relatively young squad.
Slow starts have marked the Chippewas' last two duals. On the good side, they have overcome subpar scores in the first rotation of those meets to rally and close the gap.
"We're definitely looking forward to Friday to show a little more depth which is going to be a great feeling for our team to finally go in and not feel like we're a couple steps behind," CMU coach Christine MacDonald said. "They've showed great resilience and super maturity. Even though we say they're a young team they've consistently brought that each weekend.
"We really try to stay focused on the process and not the outcomes. I believe that the process will take care of the outcomes … We focus on today. I believe that we're in a better place today than we were yesterday and if we continue with that mindset the outcomes are going to take care of themselves."
Pedrick Honored
CMU senior Denelle Pedrick earned her second-consecutive MAC Gymnast of the Week Award on Wednesday.
Pedrick, the reigning MAC Gymnast of the Year, won the all-around and shared first place on vault and uneven parallel bars in CMU's dual with Kent State. She also placed second on floor exercise and was fourth on balance beam.
Where They Rank
CMU is 34th nationally with a 194.929 average. The Chippewas are 22nd on vault, 34th on bars, 39th on balance beam, and 38th on floor exercise.
Bowling Green is 49th with a 193.130 average. The Falcons are 50th on vault, 55th on bars, 50th on balance beam, and 53rd on floor exercise.
