CMU Women Host Eastern On Senior Day

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Senior Day, a celebration and a send-off for the Central Michigan women's basketball team.
The Chippewas will entertain Eastern Michigan in a Mid-American Conference game at McGuirk Arena on Saturday (1 p.m.).
It is CMU's final home game in the latest of a remarkable string of seasons that the Chippewa women have strung together.
The Chippewas, 22-6, 15-2 MAC, and ranked 10th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll, go into next week's league tournament as the No. 1 seed after wrapping up their fourth-consecutive MAC overall regular-season championship and their fifth-straight MAC West title.
The Seniors
The Chippewas will celebrate two seniors, Gabrielle Bird and Mackenna Kelly, in a pregame ceremony.
Both have played critical roles in the Chippewas' success, having appeared in all 28 games.
Bird, who hails from South Lyon, is averaging 8.8 points and 4.8 rebounds in 25.8 minutes per game. A strong candidate for the MAC Sixth Player of the Year Award, Bird has made 54 of her 151 3-point attempts (35.8 percent) of her 3-point field goal attempts this season.
Kelly, who hails from Frankfort, is averaging 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per game.
Last Time Out
The Chippewas fell at Toledo, 76-67, on Wednesday. That loss followed a 67-62 setback at Ball State on Saturday. Both losses came after the Chippewas had clinched the league championship and the No. 1 seed for the MAC Tournament.The last time CMU lost back-to-back MAC games was in 2017, when it fell first at Buffalo and then at Toledo. Heading into Saturday's game against Eastern, the Chippewas had gone 56-7 in MAC regular-season games since that Jan. 28, 2017 loss on the Rockets' home court.
Scouting
The Eagles are 14-14, 9-8, and sixth in the overall MAC standings. The Chippewas won the first meeting, 89-82, in Ypsilanti on Jan. 22. Eastern fell to Western Michigan, 53-49, on Wednesday at home. The Eagles defeated Toledo, 64-46, a week ago at home.
The Rockets handed CMU a 76-67 loss in Toledo on Wednesday.
Areanna Combs, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, leads EMU in scoring at 19.0 points per game.
Eastern ranks second in the MAC in defense, holding opponents to 64.9 points per game.
