Chippewa Women Go To Miami On Wednesday

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan women's basketball team looks to keep pace in a tight Mid-American Conference race when the Chippewas go to Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.).
The Chippewas, who are ranked 14th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25, are 11-6, 9-4 MAC. In the league standings, they sit directly behind three three-loss teams, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Buffalo.
Last Time Out
Molly Davis scored 27 points and Micaela Kelly had 20 as CMU surged late to claim a 74-71 victory at Western Michigan on Saturday. It was the Chippewas' eighth-straight victory over the rival Broncos and their sixth-consecutive win in Kalamazoo.
Leaders
Kelly and Davis are among the MAC's statistical leaders in several categories. Kelly, the reigning MAC Player of the Year, is averaging 22.2 points per game and Davis is averaging 20.0. They rank third and sixth in the league, respectively.
Davis has made 50 percent of her field goal attempts and Kelly is knocking them down at a .466 clip. Davis is third in the conference, Kelly is sixth. Davis is second in the league in free throw percentage (.900).
CMU's Maddy Watters is making 46.6 percent of her 3-point attempts, ranking third in the league. Davis (.413) is seventh and she shares the MAC lead in 3-pointers per game (2.9).
Historic
Kelly continues to add for her legacy as one of the very best players in the history of the program. She needs five assists to move into the No. 2 spot, ahead of Suzy Merchant (1988-91) and behind Presley Hudson (2015-19). Kelly has 459 career assists, while Merchant had 463 and Hudson had 643.
Kelly enters Wednesday's game with 1,907 career points. She needs 32 to become the third-leading scorer in CMU history. Sue Nissen, who scored 1,938 points from 1988-91, is third.

The Chippewas rank second in the MAC in scoring at 76.8 points per game and are eighth defensively (72.9). Miami is allowing a MAC-worst 74.6 points per game and ranks 11th in scoring (63.9).
The Chippewas lead the MAC in field goal percentage and free throw percentage and rank third in 3-point field goal percentage.

Miami is 2-15, 1-12 after a 71-69 loss at Kent State on Saturday. A week ago, the RedHawks knocked off Western Michigan, 73-64, to end a 13-game losing streak and win their first MAC game of the season.
Miami sophomore guard Peyton Scott averaged 35.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in earning the MAC Player of the Week Award. She scored a career-high 37 points and had 10 rebounds in the victory over Western Michigan.
Scott, who ranks fifth in the MAC in scoring at 20.6 points per game, scored 18 points to lead Miami in its 69-51 loss to the Chippewas on Dec. 15 in Mount Pleasant.

The Chippewas entertain Kent State on Saturday (1 p.m.) at McGuirk Arena. At 6-1, the Golden Flashes have the fewest losses among MAC teams; they have had six games postponed.
